William Quincy Glathe passed away on November 6, 2018. Born on March 3, 1930, he was a descendent of John Quincy Adams, 6th president of U.S. for whom he was named. Bill was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. grew up in Glen Allen, Illinois and later moved to Palo Alto graduating from Palo Alto High School. He received an athletic scholarship to Stanford. He was Pacific diving champion and narrowly missed competing in the 1952 Olympics. As a very loyal Stanford Indian, he missed only one home game in 62 years.
At Stanford, he was in the NROTC and after graduating in 1952, went directly into the Navy where he was commissioned and saw active duty in the Korean War. He then went to Navy flying school and began his long flying career. He flew as Captain for Pan American Airways for 32 years and later United Airlines. Bill loved his country and was the first to volunteer when Pan Am loaned aircraft and crew for Desert Storm. He received a Commendation for his service. He retired as a US Navy Captain and Commander of a Navy reserve squadron after 20 years of active reserve duty.
Bill loved golf and was a member of Almaden Country Club for 41 years and a member of the Loma Prieta Porsche Club.
Bill is survived by his wife of 41 years, Lorraine, his brother John and sister-in-law, Carol, son, Robert and daughter Christine, son-in-law Michael, daughter-in-law Judi, stepsons Brad and Lance Bonnington and daughter-in-law Karen and his 8 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Bill Jr.
He was a very good man who lived an amazing life to its fullest and will be missed very much.
Memorial Service to be held January 5th at Oak Hill in San Jose at 1 p.m.
