Remembering Those Who Have Gone Before

Pete LyonPeter Lyon Loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at home on March 27th.2018

Born on February 14.1938 in Philadelphia. PA, he grew up on Long Beach Island, NJ.

Pete attended Duke University in 1955, where he participated in the ROTC program. After graduation in 1959 he joined the USMC and trained as a fighter pilot on the F8 Crusader. His career was spent flying out of Parris Island, SC. After retirement from the Marine  Corps in 1964 he joined Pan American Airways and flew DC8’s, 707’s and & 747s until 1986, when he was transferred to United Airlines, where he flew 747-404 in the Pacific and orient until his retirement in 1998.

Pete and his wife Anne moved to Skidaway Island and built their dream home. Pete enjoyed golf, tennis, sailing, pickle ball and bocce. He loved children and graciously gave his time to tutoring 8th. Graders in the L.O.V.E program, and later he was a coach in the Special Pops tennis program. He joined the South Side Fire Department as a volunteer fireman for 9 years and became a medical first responder in 2014. 

Everyone will remember Peter for his infectious smile and wonderful sense of humour. He would light up any room that he entered. 

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Anne. His brother Michael of Tennessee, his son Greg (Barbara), of Denver, CO and Tim (Michelle) of Plano, Texas. Six grandchildren: Preston, Jordan, Brittney, Jared, Cooper and Jack..

There will be a celebration of his life on April 28th from 4-6 p.m… at the Plantation Club.
