Mary Gunn Botthof
Feb. 10, 1921 – Oct. 1, 2011
With a few of her closest friends by her side, Mary Gunn Botthof passed away on October 1, 2011 in Reno, NV. She was born Feb. 10, 1921 in Van-couver, BC, Canada, (I think) to Eva Teskey, and William MacBride and spent her childhood in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, Canada. She taught school in Carcross, Yukon Terr., Canada until her marriage to Shel Gunn, a Royal Canadian Air Force pilot, based in Orilllia, Ontario. He was killed while serving in the Canadian Ferry Command.
Mary later moved back to Whitehorse and was hired by Pan American Airways and became a stewardess, based in Seattle, then transferred to New York, where she became a very popular supervisor. In 1964 she transferred to San Francisco, where she married Ralph Botthof, a Pan Am captain. While at Pan American, she was known as Mary Gunn.
In 1966 Mary and Ralph moved to Reno, where Mary established an antique business, joined World Wings International, and Folded Wings. She was also a member of Assistance League of Reno-Sparks.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Ralph, her parents, her brother, John and her sister Betty. She is survived by her stepson, Richard (Dick) Botthof, of Florida. Mary was a bright, witty, friendly person who brightened up everyone’s day. She had many friends and is missed by so many who loved her. As per her wishes, there will be no funeral services.
