Luke Poynter passed away August 4th, 2018, in Mountain Home, Arkansas at the age of 80. He was born November 30th, 1937, in Gassville, Arkansas, the son of Steve and Versa (Duggins) Poynter. He graduated from Cotter High School in 1955. He attended Arkansas Tech from 1955-1957. He then entered the Naval Aviation Program in Pensacola, FL. He served in the Navy for 6 years serving at various Navy bases. He married Shirley Tucker on January 2nd, 1959, in Ava, MO. After his military commitment he became a commercial airline pilot for Pan American World Airlines for 24 years. He returned to live in Mountain Home, moving from Stroudsburg, PA, in 1972. He was a member of the Twin Lakes Gun Club and was a lifetime member of the NRA.
Luke is survived by his wife, Shirley Poynter of Mountain Home, AR; son, David Poynter of Little Rock, AR; daughter, Karen Watkins and Jeremy Andrews of St. Louis, MO; granddaughter, Haley Watkins and John Sigmin of Gassville, AR; sister, Bobbie (Gary) Tucker of Mtn. Home, AR; brother-in-law, Steven (Belinda) Tucker; nephews, Michael (Shelly) Tucker; Russell (Erin) Tucker; nieces, Jane (Bashan) Bradbury; Karla (Josh) Thompson and several great nieces and nephews, and one great great nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Phillip Poynter.
A Graveside Memorial will be in the Walnut Hill Cemetery, Cotter, AR.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Ozarks Hospice House, First United Methodist Church in Mountain Home or a charity of one’s choice.
