Remembering Those Who Have Gone Before

John F Hutchins III, 90, a 60-year resident of South Windsor, beloved husband of over 66 years to Jane Hutchins, passed away peacefully, at home, surrounded by his wife and two sons on Thursday, February 19, 2026. John was born on December 5, 1935, in Trenton, New Jersey. One of three children of the late John F Hutchins Jr, and Elsie Marion Hutchins.

John was raised in New Jersey and moved to Manchester, CT in 1962. John was a graduate of Purdue University, class of 1957 earning his B.A. in engineering. He then enlisted in the US Airforce proudly serving his country flying with the 656th Bomb Squadron. John was a commercial airline Captain for over 30 years with Pan American Airlines. A career he truly loved and his childhood dream.

John was a longtime member of the Avery Street Christian Reformed Church in South Windsor. Along with spending time at the family summer Lake House in Holland, Massachusetts, John enjoyed freshwater fishing, driving the water ski boat, and working in his yard. John was also an avid sports fan, especially UConn college basketball and the Hartford Whalers, being a season ticket holder every year they were in Hartford.

In addition to his beloved Jane, he leaves his two sons, David F Hutchins of West Hartford and Michael J Hutchins of South Windsor. His four cherished grandchildren, Travis, Damon, Gianna, and Mathew. His sister Carolynn M Starr and brother-in-law Duane of Avon, and several nephews and their families. In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his sister, Marion Cantwell.

At the request of the family, the service and burial in Wapping Cemetery, South Windsor will be private. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Avery Street Christian Reformed Church, 399 Beelzebub Road, South Windsor, CT 06074.
