Remembering Those Who Have Gone Before

David Bruce Haman,, 74, of Johns Island, husband of Edith Haman, passed away at home, after battling cancer, on Monday, August 19, 2013.

David was born May 29, 1939, in Patterson, New Jersey, a son of the late Abram and Mary Matchett Haman.

From an early age, David was drawn to aviation. After attending Gettysburg College, he considered himself fortunate to be accepted by the US Navy as a fighter pilot. He continued his flying career for another 34 years with Pan American and Delta.

On the ground, David earned a reputation as being a man who could fix or build anything. He was willing to help his friends anytime. His retirement was spent crafting model WWII fighter planes. His advice was sought by fellow model airplane enthusiasts worldwide and he was happy to share his knowledge.

David will be deeply missed by his wife, Edith, and daughter, Katherine Haman. His family remembers him as a deeply dedicated husband and father. As a highly principled man, David always said he wanted to leave the world a better place than he found it.

A celebration of David’s life will be held Thursday, August 22, 2013, in the chapel of McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 2501 Bees Ferry Road, Charleston, South Carolina from 4pm – 6pm. Burial will be held at 11am, August 23, 2013, at Beaufort National Cemetery.
