Remembering Those Who Have Gone Before

Daniel J. Dwyer, 84, died on Tuesday, November 20, 2018. Dan was a graduate of St. John’s Academy, class of ’52 and St. Michael’s College, class of ’57. He proudly served in the United States Air Force as an officer aviator. After his Air Force service, he worked as a pilot for Pan America World Airways and Atlas Air. Dan flew many types of aircraft but loved flying the 747.

For the last 13 years and at the time of his passing, Dan served as mayor of his beloved City of Rensselaer, dedicating countless hours to his community. He was a member of the Gerald O’Neil American Legion Post 1683. Dan was predeceased by his loving wife, Kathleen; his parents, Daniel and Isabell; his siblings, Robert, John and Dorothy. He is survived by his children, Colleen and Daniel who are supported by their loving family especially their five children.

Dan loved his many nieces and nephews and cherished his many friends. Colleen and Dan would like the thank all their father’s nurses at Albany Medical Center (especially Emily) and the outstanding staff at Sunnyview Rehabilitation.

The funeral will be from the W.J. Lyons, Jr. Funeral Home on Monday, November 26, at 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph Church, Herrick Street, Rensselaer where the funeral Mass will be offered. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home, Sunday from 3-8 p.m. Interment will follow the Mass in the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Greenbush.
