Constance “Connie” Williams Robertson, 93, died Tuesday, May 29th in St. Vincent’s Nursing Home. Born in Quincy on September 13, 1918 Connie was the daughter of Florence and Russell Williams. She was a 1935 graduate of Quincy Senior High School and the University of Illinois, where she was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.
In 1942 she married Albert Grossarth, a Pan American pilot. After traveling extensively in the first few years of marriage, they lived in Miami, Florida and Rio de Janeiro raising their four daughters.
After the death of her husband in 1952, Connie and her children moved back to Quincy where she married John Coffman, a Quincy insurance agent, and spent nearly two decades enjoying a fulfilling life together. Connie then married John “Robbie” Robertson, a Quincy lawyer, who shared her love of golf, travel, family, and friends.
Connie was a member of the Congregational Church and a lifelong member of the Quincy Country Club where she was an avid golfer and bridge player. She was active in the Quincy Art Club and supported numerous cultural and civic projects.
Connie is survived by her four daughters: Susan Loethen of Quincy; Marilyn Hoener (Jim) of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida; Kathy Palan (Earl) of Oxford, Mississippi; and Connie McClellan (Carl) of Columbia, Missouri. Three step-children and ten great grandchildren also survive Connie. Her step children are: Moya Mischon of Houston, Texas, Rand Coffman of Guam, and Mont Robertson (Martha) of Quincy. Her grandchildren are: Lindsay Hill, Larry Loethen, Lance Loethen, Jamie Hoener, Devon Witt, Kelli Palan Allen, Dan Palan, Jane Bowman, and John McClellan.
Connie was preceded in death by her brothers James Williams of Quincy and John Williams of Phoenix, Arizona as well as her husbands: Albert Grossarth, John Coffman, and John Robertson.
Connie loved her family, her many friends, golf and Quincy. Her sense of humor, sense of style, graciousness, and kindness to all were endearing qualities to everyone who knew her. She will be greatly missed.
