Charles (Chuck) Cutting, a beloved commercial airline pilot for Pan American World Airways, passed away on October 3, 2023, in San Jose, California, after a brief illness. Born on February 28, 1930, in Pacific Grove, California, Chuck had an esteemed career as an airline captain, spanning an impressive thirty-five years.
Chuck was not only known for his professional accomplishments but also for his warm and helpful nature. Always friendly and willing to lend a hand, Chuck was a beacon of kindness and generosity. With his infectious smile and bright blue eyes, he had a way of lighting up a room and making others feel at ease.In addition to his love for flying, Chuck had a green thumb and found great joy in gardening. Whether it was tending to his vibrant vegetable garden or carefully cultivating his myriad of fruit trees, Chuck possessed a deep appreciation for the beauty and serenity of nature. His garden was not only a source of pride but also a place of solace and reflection.
He loved to read, and was well versed on world history and politics.Chuck had many other interests and hobbies. He had an insatiable appetite for travel and embarked on numerous adventures around the world. The stories he shared about his journeys were legendary and captivated the imaginations of all who listened. His love of flying began at a young age and was so strong that he purchased a biplane before he ever owned a car.
He was also an avid outdoorsman and who found joy in hiking in the majestic Sierra Nevada mountains.Beyond his passion for travel, gardening and the outdoors, Chuck had a knack for writing. He wrote several short stories, poems, and published a book about his travels through Europe at the age of seventeen. His book, “1947- Europe From a Duffel Bag” showcased his talent for storytelling and his innate curiosity for the world.
Chuck leaves behind a cherished legacy and will be deeply missed by his children, Susan Cutting Mould (David), Douglas Cutting (Chariya), and Eric Cutting. His family and friends meant everything to him, and along with his children, he is survived by five grandchildren: Michelle Mould Steakly and Michael Mould, Shelby Cutting, and McKenna and Hunter Cutting.In remembering Chuck Cutting, let us honor his love for gardening, his adventurous spirit, and his unwavering commitment to helping others.
