Remembering Those Who Have Gone Before

George H. Bentley, 68, died suddenly, Tuesday, May 19, 2015. He was the beloved husband of Christina (Knowles) Bentley.

Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Hayden and Elizabeth (Anderson) Bentley and stepson of Shirley Bentley of Wolfeboro, NH; proud father of Robert Bentley of Warwick and Matthew Bentley and his wife, Kellie Phelan, of Seattle, WA.

George was a graduate of Moses Brown, Class of 1965 and attended Boston University. He began his aviation career as a corporate pilot in March of 1982.

During his professional career, George worked for Henson Airlines, Ransome Airlines, Pan Am Express, Pan American World Airways, Kuwait Airways and United Airlines.

George retired as Captain at United Airlines in March, 2007; his total air time was over 18,000 hours. He was a member of many professional organizations and was a founding member of the RI Chapter of Quiet Birdmen. He was a Navy veteran.

George will be remembered for his love of history, voracious appetite for reading and never-ending sense of humor. He turned his luck and good fortune in aviation into an opportunity to mentor numerous future aviators.

George will be missed by all who knew him. His funeral service will be held Monday, May 25, 2015 at 10 am in the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Chapel, 2435 Warwick Ave. Visiting hours Sunday 3-6 PM.
