Remembering Those Who Have Gone Before

Lawrence VanderbergLawrence H. Vanderberg, of Massapequa, Long Island, died Thursday, May 19, 2016, at the age of 96 years.

He was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, in 1920, where he lived until joining Pan American Airways as a pilot in 1942 (retired 1980 after 35 years as captain.He then moved to Massapequa, New York, in 1951; and resided at the time of his death at Sunrise Senior Living in Babylon, New York.

Mr. Vanderberg is predeceased by his beloved wife, Virginia. He is survived by his brother, Harold; his daughter, Diane Arnold and his son-in-law, John; his daughter, Janice Cappiello and his son-in-law, Bob; and his son, Thomas Vanderberg and daughter-in-law, Christine. He is the beloved ‘Grandpa Pete’ to Matthew, Katie, Jill, Stephanie (Christopher), Michelle (Vincent), Peter (Elizabeth), James (Jessica) and Paul; and “Great Grandpa Pete” to Owen, Mckayla, Sam, Kyle, Jack, Chloe, Grace, Emily, Ava, Sara, Thomas, Lucas, Dylan, Julian and Alice.

Family and friends will gather at the funeral home on Sunday, May 22, from 2-4:30 and 7-9:30 p.m. On Sunday evening at 8:00 p.m., a Funeral Service will be offered by Deacon Michael Aprile of St. Martin of Tours R.C. Church, Amityville. All will gather on Monday morning at 9:00 a.m. at the Chapel. Morning Prayers will be offered at 9:30 a.m., and the procession will depart the funeral home at approximately 9:45 a.m. for the cemetery.
